Lush handmade cosmetics offer a whole raft of environmental and animal friendly products that are ideal for taking to festivals. Their solid products are much kinder to the environment, being preservative and packaging free, and they also take up less room in your bag. Being solid also means less chance of annoying spillages in your luggage. Just ensure you pack them in one of their handy travel tins (prices start at £2.50).

Chose one of Lush’s solid shampoo bars to take with you. You can use them for showering with, or to wash your clothes - a real multi-purpose festival essential! And you don’t need to worry about nasty chemicals going into the ground, as all Lush products are made with natural ingredients and the shampoo bars contain no preservatives.

You get up to 80 washes from one 55g shampoo bar, whereas you’d get around 40 washes from a 250g bottle of liquid shampoo. So for every shampoo bar you use, you’re saving two bottles that would be heading for landfill – plus you are helping to save energy by cutting transport costs.

Try Karma Komba (£4.65 for 55g bar), a patchouli, orange, lemongrass and elemi blend that acts as a tonic for the scalp and balances the production of sebum. Great for packing in a tin (£2.50 or free if you buy 2 shampoo bars) and heading off to whichever summer festival takes your fancy.

Another essential festival item is a moisturiser with an SPF, to protect your skin from the harmful effects of sun damage. Choose between Lush’s Skin Nanny (£25.50) with SPF 30 or Paradise Regained (£25.50) with SPF 15, both use two sunscreens to give effective everyday protection against harmful UVA and UVB damage, along with a whole host of natural ingredients to nourish the skin. Blend with one of Lush’s new Colour Supplements (£7.50 each) to add a little colour to the skin and even out the tone, leaving you looking fresher, younger and healthier- just what you need to stay looking your best after dancing the night away.

Containing a light vegetable oil base of soya oil and bran oil, these supplements will carry the pigment into the skin without congesting it in any way. Another simple and effective idea from Lush to combine your skincare and make-up routine, saving you time and making your life a little bit easier.

And don’t go anywhere without Lush’s new Ultrabalm (£7.50 for 40g) – it’s their version of Vaseline, but without the petroleum jelly. Instead they use a super softening, emollient base of rose wax, candelilla wax and jojoba oil instead. Use for just about everything from lip balm to a cuticle softener. Also very effective at calming sunburn, as is Cosmetic Lad moisturiser (£10.10) that is formulated with masses of calming aloe vera, antioxidant wheatgrass, healing lavender and soothing chamomile.

And if you find yourself with any weird strap marks or sore spots, try evening it out with Charlotte Island body tint (£4.95 for 100g or £9.95 for 240g). Apply to the body for a subtle glow and allow the aloe vera to sooth and the cocoa butter to moisturise, which will hopefully avoid any peeling.
