Visionary Soap Company officially licensed by the Fairtrade Foundation
(17/08/2009)
After being a fair trade dedicated company since they opened for business in 2005, Visionary Soap Company is now officially licensed by the Fairtrade Foundation. They are one of the first UK bodycare companies to achieve licensee status in this area.
So what does all of this mean? Well, lots of things are not changing at all! They have been using olive oil from the Zaytoun and the Palestinian Fair Trade Producers Company from the very beginning. They have also been using spices such as turmeric, cinnamon and ginger from Fairtrade producers in India and Sri Lanka from day one as well.
They will be welcoming shea butter UGPPK from Burkina Faso, sesame oil from Nicaragua and cocoa butter from Conacado in The Dominican Republic. They will continue to use essential oils and sisal soap bags from WFTO groups in Madagascar & The Comoros, gift boxes from GPI in Nepal, Fairtrade cotton flannels from India and BAFTS certified soap dishes from Bali.
They have always formulated our recipes to incorporate the highest possible percentage of fair trade ingredients (taking into account of course, the need to balance this with the overally quality and effectiveness of the finished product) and are proud to point out that their Soaps will come in at an average 27% Fairtrade product, Body Butters - 99%, Lip Balms - 34%, Gardener's Hand Salve - 34%, and Bath & Body Oils - 19%, way above the minimum requirement to be licensed.
This also means they will be working even more closely withTownship Trades to help them with FLO Certification in the future. The vision is to create further training, employment and empowerment opportunities for the group and have them eventually be the primary manufacturer of their soap. Production will of course continue to happen here in the UK for the time being.
